Rain, a Korean actor and singer, has finally been acknowledged by Hollywood for his acting skills. Based on his performance in Ninja Assassin, he was awarded with the “Biggest Badass Star” award at the MTV Movie Awards. Competitors for the award included Angelina Jolie, Chris Pine, Sam Worthington, and Channing Tatum. To have won the award when classed with such famous and powerful players in Hollywood is quite the accomplishment for Rain.
Rain is only the fourth Asian star to win an award from MTV, following in the footsteps of Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, and Ken Jeong. Rain launched his American Hollywood career with a small part in Speed Racer. By playing the part very well, he was cast in Ninja Assassin. Though the film did not receive excellent reviews, some described it as “a B level action movie,” Rain’s performance was superb, and so far has netted him the MTV award.
His acceptance speech was short, concise, and spoken in fluent English. He kept it light and funny, joking about starting to “work out” after learning that he was nominated for the award. Based on his current rise to fame both in music and movies, we can expect to see much more of this Korean superstar, Rain. Congratulations!
