This month, 24-year-old singer/songwriter Alfa appeared as a guest of fellow songwriter Manny Garcia at his live performance in the Philippine Center in New York City. Though the two artists share the same last name, they have clarified that they are not related in anyway. However they did jokingly say that they are long lost cousins.
About Alfa
Born in the Philippines and raised in New Jersey, the young and beautiful NYU graduate has already released four records. With the release of her latest album, “Second Skin”, Alfa pushed her musical career to a new level by winning honorable mention from the prestigious New York Songwriter’s Circle. Last year, with her original songs and an outstanding performance, she won the grand prize at the Kollaboration Acoustic 3 talent competition.
In addition to her music career with its performances, tours, songwriting, etc., Alfa also has a full-time job! During my short interview with her, I find that she is a performer with a very sincere attitude and a sweet demeanor. Maybe her attitude is part of the reason why she can juggle the different parts of her life so well.
When asked about who she would like to collaborate with, Alfa said that she would love to work with Ingrid Michaelson someday because they are similar in many ways.
If you have not heard Alfa’s music before, I highly recommend you to check out Second Skin. One of my personal favorites is her “Supergirl” track. Find out more about her: website and myspace.
